Week 7

First Week in the Field!

Hello from the Philippines!

It's definitely been a long couple days and probably sweat more these past 3 days then I did in a year back home. I already love the people here tho! Just wish I could talk to them, which will take time. Even with the MTC, we learned Cebuano for 6 weeks but here they all speak Waray-Waray.

The kids here are fun. The ward is really nice. The apartment is pretty sweet, the elders here say it's the nicest missionary apartment in the mission, I guess I'm being spoiled a bit. My companion is super chill and fun. He's great at helping me with the language so far! We have a rat too that chewed through one of our cables for our rice cooker, ya so we're gonna catch him and fry 'em up nice and good. Mm mm mm.

There's also ants everywhere a couple of them lil stinkers were actually crawling on me as I wrote this and I've probably ate a bunch without knowing by now. Not really sure what's happening still, just going with the flow right now until can learn the jist of wats goin on around here yk.

Also have y'all ever got into a car, and it was boiling hot? Well when I was in the MTC, that was the outside. And when I stepped off the plane into Tacloban... BoOm... rush of a never ending sweaty heat wave that no one can escape, cuz the doors are locked of course, but, I'm the one who locked it yk. I'm in this mission and I'm stickin with it till the end. I think that was a pretty good analogy, ig I could refine some things but its pretty decent still.

We went to the mall today which was pretty cool and I had the best soft serve ice cream in my life. I've had a couple people call me Joe which was cool ig. I definitely stand out here when we walk around not because of my Sunday clothes and name tag, but because I'm like the only white guy here whenever we walk around anywhere.

It's been fun to walk around and see Tacloban. Also I'm in the Tacloban 1st area so in the same area as the mission home and that church building so that's basically why I'm being spoiled. I've had some good experiences tho like saying good morning in Waray to a bunch of people when it's nighttime on accident. And this one family that we were teaching was talking about how the mom was an alien and came from mars because she doesn't have a birth certificate. And giving fist bumps to every kid we pass by and handing out pass-along cards of Jesus to them. Best mission in the world fs!

I tried to catch this big frog I found and it peed on me instead which was a bummer or ig his bowels were loosened onto me. I was raised to not use the word pee cuz its crude and gross apparently so I'm not gonna put it in this email just in case there's younger listeners. Stay drippy fam, ik I am. Get it cuz I'm dripping in sweat l o l. Sorry that was really cringy ill leave that one out too :) Don't have too much fun out there without me! Tho I'm probably in a cooler place so ig you can try, nothin beats a long hard day out doin the Lords work yk. Cya guys and email back if you want!
